“Luxury and exquisiteness”: Mumbai Duty Free to stock rare Glenlivet

INDIA: The Glenlivet’s limited-edition Winchester Collection Vintage 1966 will be available at Mumbai Duty Free in Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport from 1 April.

What Pernod Ricard says about the product:

Packaging: Every element of the packaging has been designed and crafted to stay true to the product and the pioneering spirit of The Glenlivet. Each material and finish has been chosen to create a piece that is as timeless as the precious liquid stored inside.

Bottle: Elegant flow lines are sculpted into the glass to create a sense of movement of water. Each bottle has been skilfully mouth-blown to achieve exceptional precision and an exquisite finish. Hand painted gold branding complements the liquid’s rich colour and adds to the products luxury cues.

Stopper: Each stopper is set with a single rare and precious smoky quartz, which is also known as Cairngorm Stone or “Whisky Stone” as a result of its unique colouring. The stones have been specifically selected to match the dark colour of Vintage 1966’s liquid.

Cabinet: John Galvin’s craft and well-rounded understanding of luxury have been applied to the design of The Winchester Collection Vintage 1966 cabinet. Each cabinet is made from luxurious dark cherry wood, to complement the whisky’s unique colour. Gold engraving on the exterior and soft ivory leather on the interior, add to the prestige credentials of the cabinet.

Only 100 bottles of the luxury whisky have been distributed worldwide, and Mumbai Duty Free – a joint venture between DFS Group and Flemingo – will place two bottles on sale.

It marks the second release from The Winchester Collection, the first series of rare and precious 50-year-old single malt Scotch whiskies from Pernod Ricard-owned The Glenlivet. The latest release is priced at US$30,000 per bottle.

“Setting new standards in taste and quality”

Pernod Ricard Asia Marketing Director Nodjame Fouad said: “The Glenlivet Winchester Collection is already an established icon of luxury and exquisiteness.

“In our constant quest to improvise and cater to the evolved tastes of our prestigious and discerning luxury consumers, we are launching Vintage 1966 that brings to life passion, care and craft. Setting new standards in taste and quality, this rare edition of The Glenlivet is anticipated to become one of the most sought-after and priceless whisky collections.”

Every bottle is individually numbered to highlight the whisky’s rarity, uniqueness and collectability, according to Pernod Ricard.

The brand owner said its collection of rare whiskies has taken its name from Master Distiller Alan Winchester, and was matured for 50 years in exceptional sherry casks. The vintage offers sweet and rich aromas of treacle, moist raisins and homemade apricot jam.

It added that the product is the result of “painstaking artistry by four celebrated artisans from the British Isles”: Master Distiller Alan Winchester; glass artist Brodie Nairn; silversmith Richard Fox; and cabinet maker John Galvin.

Extension of a partnership in Mumbai

Last year Mumbai Duty Free worked with Pernod Ricard to open the first Luxe Boutique in travel retail at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

As reported, the 550sq ft spirits & wines store sits in a prominent space within T2 Departures and houses a large selection of Pernod Ricard’s premium and rare collections under one roof.

The Moodie Davitt Report was the only media invited to the launch of the outlet, which stocks the brand owner’s key blended Scotch brands, single malts, Martell Cognac and Absolut vodka, as well as wines & Champagnes.
