Lotte Duty Free’s 40th Anniversary project wins Red Dot Award

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free has won a prestigious Red Dot Design Award – its second consecutive annual success in the renowned global design awards.

The travel retailer won the recognition for its Heritage Book and related branding designed to celebrate Lotte Duty Free’s 40th anniversary.

The award was given in the field of brand design & identity.

As reported, Lotte Duty Free commissioned famous British pop artist Stephen Wilson to create the anniversary visuals. The retailer unveiled the 40th anniversary emblem, desktop calendar, and shopping bags in collaboration with Wilson in December 2019.

The anniversary branding features 40 balloons and is adapted for each season throughout 2020.

The brand heritage book conveys Lotte Duty Free’s history, authenticity, and future vision with artistic sensibility rather than being limited to a standard chronological history.

The book focuses on Lotte Duty Free’s brand values while also embracing a detailed narrative of the company’s 40-year success story.

Kap Lee: The recognition is even more significant given the COVID-19 crisis

Lotte Duty Free CEO Kap Lee said: “The meaning of this award is even greater as we have achieved it during the COVID-19 crisis, the most difficult of times. Lotte Duty Free will continue to champion the duty free culture and sustain our innovative activities.”

Lotte Duty Free’s triumph came against hot competition with over 7,000 entries from more than 50 countries around the world. The Red Dot Design Awards, held since 1955, are widely considered to be the world’s most prestigious design awards.

In related news, Lotte Duty Free also won a bronze award in the A’Design Award & Competition 2020 held in Italy this April. The A’Design Awards recognise excellence in design, creativity, and innovation across about 100 fields, including interiors, graphics, architecture, and products.

Lotte Duty Free was recognised for its collaboration with acclaimed Dutch artist and commercial illustrator Jordy van den Nieuwendijk, who composed a travel-related story themed ‘Pop! Pop! Santa Village’ to remind consumers of precious travel moments.
