Lotte and Dufry join the fray as three-way battle for Suvarnabhumi Airport duty free contract kicks off

THAILAND. Three players, including two joint ventures, are bidding for the duty free concession at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The Moodie Davitt Report can confirm that incumbent King Power Duty Free, Bangkok Airways and Royal Orchid Sheraton (Thailand) have tabled their technical bids today (financial offers will follow).

As reported, Bangkok Airways is bidding with Korean travel retail powerhouse (and world number two) Lotte Duty Free.

Royal Orchid Sheraton (Thailand) is bidding with international travel retail leader Dufry, The Moodie Davitt Report confirmed today with Dufry CEO Julián Díaz.

There were no other bidders, according to a Bangkok Post article citing Airports of Thailand (AoT) Senior Executive Vice President Wichai Bunyu.

How the Bangkok Post reported the latest bid developments.

We will bring you more details soon.

Wichai told the media title that two other parties, Central Department Store Co and Minor International, which had both bought bidding documents, did not proceed with bids.

The same report said that AoT had received three bids for a related contract to develop other commercial areas at the Bangkok gateway.

King Power Suvarnabhumi, Central Pattana and Minor International placed bids, the Bangkok Post wrote, but AoT disqualified Minor International for “lacking experience” in managing commercial areas for at least five years.

That left a two-way race between King Power Suvarnabhumi and Central Pattana.
