Le Clos Category Manager Beans Boughton is named UAE’s first Master of Wine

UAE. Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI) and Le Clos Fine Wine Category Manager Beans Boughton has become the UAE’s first resident Master of Wine (MW).

The title, which is held by only 409 people worldwide, is regarded as the wine industry’s highest accolade.

Induction into the prestigious Institute of Masters of Wine makes Beans Boughton part of a global community of highly experienced wine professionals, each of whom have demonstrated great knowledge and ability in the art, science and business of wine.

Their practical and theoretical knowledge enables them to work across all disciplines within the wine industry, from winemakers, oenologists and viticulturists through to shippers, retailers and writers.

Le Clos said Boughton’s title further enhances its reputation and credibility as one of the world’s leading fine wine retailers.

“Offering an unparalleled opportunity, Le Clos customers can benefit from advice and recommendations, confident that these come from the depth of experience and industry awareness required to become an MW,” the retailer said.

The presence of a MW based in the UAE and working across the Le Clos portfolio is, according to the retailer, recognition of the quality offering available to its customers.

Beans, who has worked with some of the UK’s best-known wine retailers, completed the WSET Diploma in 2011. In 2017 he joined MMI as Fine Wine Category Manager responsible for managing 50% of Le Clos’ fine wine portfolio.

His role also involves fine wine category management across travel retail, airlines, Dubai on-trade and retail, and MMI’s international markets.

“This fantastic achievement is a milestone for Le Clos and the wine industry in the UAE and Middle East region,” Le Clos added.
