Landside sales growth outpaces airside at Zürich Airport in March

SWITZERLAND. Commercial turnover (net sales to consumers) at Zürich Airport rose by +7.5% year-on-year to CHF44.9 million (US$47.7 million) in March 2013. Airside and landside sales grew by +5.9% and +9.6% respectively during the month.

The key figure of commercial turnover (retail and food & beverage) per departing passenger rose by +5.8% in the month to CHF44.90 (US$47.70) – airside was up +4.2% and landside +7.9%.

In the year to date, total turnover saw an increase of +3.9% to CHF120.8 million (US$128.4 million), with airside and landside sales rising by +6.0% and +2.5% respectively. Turnover per departing passenger for the same period increased by +4.4% to CHF45.20 (US$48.04).

The airport handled 1,998,413 passengers in March, a gain of +1.6% over the past year. The year to date passenger growth stands at -0.5%.

O&D or local passengers (originating or departing from Zurich) increased by +0.6% to 1,238,792 compared to previous March (YTD -0.4%). Transfer passengers increased by +3.1% to 752,178 in March (YTD -0.8%). The transfer rate which was at 37.2% last March is currently at 37.7% (YTD 36.6%).

Air traffic movements decreased by -8.1% to 21,143 in March versus the previous year (YTD -6.3%).
