Lagardère Travel Retail wins consumer technology tender at Düsseldorf Airport

GERMANY. Lagardère Travel Retail has won a tender to operate four consumer technology stores at Düsseldorf Airport, with the contract beginning this Spring. The retailer will introduce its Tech2Go concept, featuring tech accessories and gadgets, at the airport. It will do so in cooperation with Lagardère Travel Retail Germany product partner Schäfer Electronics, with a stated focus on “innovation and entertainment”.

The four stores occupy a total of 260sq m of space. Three stores are located airside in piers A, B and C, with another store in the public zone landside. These extend the retailer’s presence in the country – it already operates at Hamburg Airport and plans a further opening at Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

“We are very pleased to be going on a common path as an innovative partner with our know-how in the travel retail sector and see the new openings as the start of a growing retail portfolio,” said Lagardère Travel Retail Germany CEO Jochen Halfmann.

“With Lagardère Travel Retail we have chosen a retail operator that offers our travellers a mixture of innovative products and customer-oriented services in four stores,” said Thomas Schnalke, Chairman of the Management Board at Dusseldorf Airport. “We look forward to a long-term partnership.”

The Tech2Go concept has been tailored for Düsseldorf Airport, with specific target groups to be addressed via in-store advertising for example. In addition, Lagardère is planning temporary promotions such as Formula 1 simulations and gaming consoles to make the experience more engaging for travellers.
