From automatic to Manuel: Diageo India Managing Director Asif Adil with top Indian model Nina Manuel at the launch

INDIA. Johnnie Walker, the world’s top-selling Scotch whisky, is offering travellers at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai the chance to win a Mercedes-Benz C-Class 200 Kompressor.

The pioneering ‘Johnnie Walker Win a Mercedes-Benz’ Contest is open to customers spending at least US$58 on Johnnie Walker products at DFS’s Arrivals or Departures stores. The promotion runs until the end of March.

Diageo India Managing Director Asif Adil said: “The new Mumbai DFS duty free is powered by immaculate retail theatre, visibility, visual appeal and a world-class duty free environment.

“Johnnie Walker is leading the way with innovative marketing initiatives and has been very successful in adding new dimensions and experiences to the consumer touch points. We have ensured that our entire portfolio selection is available to our discerning consumers.”

DFS India CEO Vispi Patel added: “We at DFS are pleased to provide Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport with India’s first truly world-class duty free shops, which offer a wide array of duty free products, including luxury, liquor, tobacco, chocolates, sunglasses, watches and beauty products at internationally competitive prices.”

Diageo has given away several high-profile prizes to Indian duty free consumers in the past, including an apartment in Cochin in 2007, 2kgs of gold and packages to the ICC World Cup. But this is the first time that a Mercedes-Benz has been offered.

Johnnie Walker has a global partnering agreement with one of the world’s most successful Formula 1 racing teams, Team McLaren Mercedes. Diageo said that the sport provides a unique international platform for engaging with the consumer.

As reported, DFS’s operation in Mumbai is a partnership with Flemingo Duty Free Shops.
