Jewel Changi Airport to open seven new Asian cuisine F&B outlets

SINGAPORE. Jewel Changi Airport has revealed details of an eclectic mix of seven new food & beverage outlets that will open over the next few months. Singaporean, Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese cuisines will be represented across restaurants and takeaways, adding to a stable of more than 100 eateries at Jewel.

Sourbombe – run by Genevieve Lee, runner-up in the first season of MasterChef Singapore – will open its second outlet in Jewel this August. Its staple offering is a ‘mashup’ of sourdough and Italian Bomboloni (bomb-shaped doughnuts stuffed with pastry cream – see image below), with an artisanal twist.

Gourmet Bomboloni flavours include Burnt Honey & Sage Walnuts, Lavender Lime Mascarpone and Basque Burnt Cheesecake.

Exclusive to the airport items on the Sourbombe menu include sourdough waffles, home-made ice cream sourdough cones in a variety of flavours, and sourdough dipping bowls with scrambled eggs, guacamole and burrata.

A selection of dishes which will be available at The Hainan Story Chapter 2 from early next month

Sourbombe Co-founder Genevieve Lee said: “Being Singapore’s first artisanal sourdough bomboloni, we made the conscious decision to expand our bakery in Jewel Changi Airport as we wanted to fly our Singapore flag high and proud by sharing our whimsical and imaginary flavours to more pastry lovers, especially tourists.

“When it comes to designing each flavour, we are always inspired by our surroundings, an ingredient or with the people we meet. Therefore, opening in Jewel will be such an incredible opportunity for us to expand our horizons to more creative bakes and to also launch our very first dine-in dessert experience. The team and I are excited to continue sharing our craft with tourists and locals alike.”

The Hainan Story Chapter 2 is opening in early July, serving dishes such as Newspaper Curry Rice, Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Uncle Robert Western & BBQ.

One of the signature offerings from The Original Vadai – the onion dough fritter

The outlet’s bakery will offer freshly-baked goods such as Swiss rolls and Ondeh Ondeh cookies, alongside cream horns and traditional cakes. Two new offerings exclusive to the Jewel outlet are also on the menu – 218 Hainanese Lor Mee and Ah Mai Kum Hainanese Chicken Rice Porridge.

The store will be decked out in black and white colonial style and the interior splashed with vibrant colours.

Pork and Egg Cheese savoury toast from Taiwanese brand Fong Sheng Hao, coming to Jewel in September

An eatery from the The Original Vadai – which has its roots in Geylang Serai’s Ramadan Bazaar – will open this month. Alongside its popular Prawn Vadai, other variations of the dough fritter snack available include Ikan Billis, Onion, Cheese and Chocolate.

Taiwan’s original charcoal grilled toast and milk tea outfit Fong Sheng Hao which had humble beginnings in a small alley near Shilin MRT station in Taipei – will open in Jewel on 12 September.

Savoury toasts such as Pork and Egg Cheese and Braised Pork Rice are on offer, along with Fong Sheng Hao signature milk tea.

A healthy dish on offer from Kei Kaisendon, which will open its new airport eatery next month

Three new Japanese eateries – Kei Kaisendon, Sukiya and Sushiro – will open at Jewel across this month and in July.

Kei Kaisendon specialises in rice bowls with fresh sashimi, which will be flown in from Japan.

Sukiya is Japan’s number-one Gyūdon chain from Yokohama. Gyūdon is a Japanese dish comprising a bowl of rice topped with beef and onion simmered in a mildly sweet sauce flavoured with dashi, soy sauce and mirin.

Sukiya also offers beef yakiniku, Japanese curry and karaage (Japanese fried chicken).

Finally, Sushiro will offer over 100 types of sushi and Japanese dishes, served up on a conveyor belt, including two special items which have been specially created to commemorate the opening of the Jewel outlet.

The Captain Jumbo Fried Shrimp, served with tartar sauce on the side, is the chef’s creative spin on an aeroplane. Jewels from the Sea is an umami-packed mix of fresh seafood and includes ingredients such as abalone, scallop, ikura (salmon roe), and matumaezuke (seasoned herring roe and kombu mix).

Jewel Changi Airport CEO James Fong said: “With these new store openings, both local and foreign visitors are in for a treat and will be spoilt for choice with Jewel’s refreshed offerings.

“The tenant mix is curated with the objective of showcasing the best of Singapore to the world and to bring in the most popular global brands to Jewel. With international travel recovering, our footfall traffic has also rebounded to two-thirds of pre-COVID levels.”

He added: “We look forward to welcoming back travellers to experience Singapore’s local flavours as well as enjoy Jewels play attractions and retail offerings.”
