Jewel Changi Airport dazzles with Disney100 celebration

Jewel Changi Airport’s newest attraction, Disney100, celebrates Walt Disney’s 100 years of storytelling in spectacular style

SINGAPORE. Jewel Changi Airport last week unveiled Disney100, an attraction featuring spectacular Disney-themed activities and retail offerings for locals and tourists.

The Disney100 activities and displays pay tribute to nearly 100 years of storytelling from The Walt Disney Company. Jewel visitors can explore a Disney100 Light & Sound Show featuring some of Disney’s best-loved characters and photo spots inspired by select films. Shoppers can also enjoy retail offerings featuring Disney merchandise and collectables.

Disney100 is a reference to the 100th anniversary of the company founded by Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney on 16 October 1923

For the launch weekend from 12 to 15 January, visitors were entertained at the HSBC Rain Vortex by a Disney-themed Light & Sound show, complemented by surprise appearances from Disney figures.

The Light & Sound Show has been curated by world-renowned Los Angeles-based water feature design firm, WET. A medley of classic Disney songs including ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’, ‘A Whole New World’, ‘You’ve Got A Friend In Me’ and the theme soundtrack from Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame were played during the show.

A shorter version of the Disney100 Light and Sound Show will run until 9 April.

Spectacular light and music displays wowed guests during the Disney100 launch. The show features light projections from popular Disney films accompanied by a medley of timeless Disney tunes.

Disney 100 photo spots

At the Shiseido Forest Valley, visitors and Disney fans can walk through a Disney100 archway and take photos in front of a 4-metre tall platinum statue of Mickey Mouse.

The Shiseido Forest Valley and Canopy Park features ten interactive Disney-themed photo spots inspired by classic scenes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars movies and shows. The photo installations showcase popular scenes from classic movies including Steamboat Willy (the first Disney animation with sound), Winnie The Pooh, Lion King, Toy Story, Up, Inside Out and Encanto.

In collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board, four other photo spots called ‘Little Wonders of Singapore’ have also been created to highlight intriguing elements of Singapore.

An array of Disney-themed merchandise and collectables from the most popular Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters and movies is also available at the store.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Jewel Changi Airport has also opened the Disney-themed Year of the Rabbit Tsum Tsum pop-up store, at Jewel’s Basement 1. Its product line-up includes toys, stationery, apparel and homeware. The pop-up, one of the largest in Singapore, is open until February.

Shoppers can redeem a complimentary set of Year of the Rabbit Tsum Tsum red packets with a minimum S$80 (US$61) spend in a single receipt, while stocks last.

After this, the retail pop-up will be transformed into The Wonder Store to feature Disney100-themed merchandise, with a wide assortment across Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars branded properties.

Jewel Changi Airport Development CEO James Fong said, “Creating wonderful memories for all our visitors continues to be what drives us at Jewel. Disney inspires us to offer our guests more opportunities to bond with their friends, family and loved ones.

“We are proud to be bringing a touch of Disney’s iconic stories and characters to travellers, fans and families in Singapore to create delightful memories together. We are also grateful for the support of the Singapore Tourism Board to present the unique range of Disney100 displays at Jewel.

Singapore Tourism Board Chief Executive Keith Tan said, “Since 2016, our collaborations with The Walt Disney Company have given us the opportunity to bring joy and happiness to Disney fans and families from across the globe. We invite both locals and overseas visitors to enjoy the special activities that pay tribute to Disney’s iconic storytelling at Jewel, which are among a series of new and refreshed events that Singapore will offer in 2023.”

A chance to win an all-expense paid trip for four to Hong Kong Disneyland is also up for grabs for those who shop at Jewel Changi Airport or at 15 CapitaLand malls during this Lunar New Year with Disney-themed Year of The Rabbit festivities.
