Introducing the Spirit of Nicaragua: Villiger reveals 1888 cigars

Swiss cigar specialist Villiger has extended its popular 1888 line – which echoes the year in which the company was founded and was the first handmade premium cigar to bear the Villiger name – with Villiger 1888 Nicaragua.

The line is available in three formats – Coronita, Robusto and Toro – and presented in a 20-piece, dark-blue cabinet box.

Villiger 1888 Nicaragua is said to blend medium-bodied tobaccos to offer an aromatic smoking experience, with notes of leather and pepper and hints of chocolate and honey. Tagged as ‘The Spirit of Nicaragua’, the cigars are available now in travel retail.

The Villiger de Nicaragua Edición Limitada 2022, marking the opening of the Villiger de Nicaragua cigar factory in Estelí earlier this year, was featured by Villiger in Cannes last week. The first limited-edition (9,000 pieces) from Estelí, the cigars are presented in a 10-piece glossy wooden box with a design highlighting Nicaragua as ‘the country of 1,000 volcanoes’.

The Villiger de Nicaragua cigar factory is a joint venture between Villiger and Joya de Nicaragua. According to Villiger, the partnership marks “another important step in its objective to grow and strengthen its position in the handmade cigar business worldwide”.

“It also guarantees a fluent supply of high-quality hand-rolled cigars from Nicaragua, which is an increasingly important country of origin for these types of cigars,” the company added.

Other Villiger brands produced at the factory include Corrida Nicaragua, La Libertad, La Vencedora, Villiger San Doro, La Meridiana and Edicion Limitadas. ✈
