Intelcan to build US$100 million airport in Romania – 15/11/04

ROMANIA. Canadian company Intelcan is to build a US$100 million dollar international airport in Ghimbav, Brasov County, under a public-private partnership with Romanian authorities.

“It will be a civilian airport, catering to the business community of Brasov, Covasna and Prahova regions,” Intelcan Technosystems President Ron Weissberger told Business Review. It is designed to foster international and domestic tourism by facilitating access to the region.

“The airport will cater for our projected passenger load plus it will have a built-in expansion capability for the future. The capacity has been designed to take care of all types of passenger traffic who might travel in a regional jet of 50 passengers, Boeing 737 or 767, Airbus A320 or A330,” said Weissberger.

Intelcan has already started to draw up a feasibility study and a traffic study. The Canadian party will be in charge of designing, building and operating the airport, while the Romanian side will take care of getting the required planning permission and will provide the utilities.
