With profound sorrow we report the passing of Dufry Chief Executive Officer Operations Eugenio Andrades, one of travel retail’s most-respected executives.
Tributes have been pouring in via LinkedIn from colleagues and business partners on news of his loss.
In a statement, Dufry described Eugenio as “a highly esteemed and hugely admired colleague, who has dedicated so much of his professional life to Dufry, its operations and its people all around the world.”
The company continued: “This news has come as a great shock to everyone at Dufry and we know that many in the wider industry will equally be saddened at the loss of a man who has contributed so much to our business.
“Eugenio was a man of immense integrity, humility and a superb and much-respected professional.”
Dufry added: “A brilliant strategist, he delivered on his responsibility as Chief Executive Officer Operations with incredible focus and drive. He served with distinction over 26 years in each of his roles within the companies, which eventually came together as Dufry.
“Eugenio excelled as a greatly valued leader of people. Throughout his long and outstanding career, he took a genuine and deep interest in those he worked with and developed strong relationships with our business partners across the world.”
Dufry Chief Executive Officer Xavier Rossinyol paid fulsome tribute, noting, “Eugenio’s contribution to making Dufry what it is today was truly outstanding.
“His business acumen, keen analytical approach and operational experience, combined with his genuine interest in people, earned him deep respect both within Dufry and across the duty and tax free industry. He will be very much missed.
“We will continue to honour his name and, above all, his values with a deep sense of pride and responsibility.”
As a way to honour and recognise Eugenio’s focus on developing people, Dufry will establish and name after him a programme to assist disadvantaged young people to develop life skills and a career.
A book of memorial and condolences will be opened at Dufry’s Madrid office. Those who wish to contribute are invited to send these to tribute@dufry.com

A stellar travel retail career
Eugenio began his long and successful duty free and travel retail career in 1996, when he joined Aldeasa as Director of Strategy and Development.
In 2001, he moved to Jordan after having been appointed CEO Jordan and Middle East to develop this fledgling operation. Upon his return to Spain he held several senior roles within Aldeasa from 2002 to 2007, including Director of Strategy & Development and Investor Relations.
From 2007 to 2010 he served as Commercial Director and Operations Coordinator playing an instrumental role in the integration of operational and commercial practices that followed the merger of Aldeasa, Alpha and World Duty Free after the acquisition by Autogrill Group in 2008.
He then served as Chief Commercial Officer Aldeasa from 2011 to 2014. In November 2014 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of World Duty Free Group, and moved to the UK in early 2015 where he was based at the Bedfont Lakes offices.
In January 2016 following the take-over of Word Duty Free Group in 2015 and its integration into Dufry, Eugenio was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the UK, Central and Eastern Europe Division.
In mid-2018, he returned to Spain and was entrusted with the responsibility as Chief Executive Officer Operations and Strategy of Dufry and became Chief Executive Officer Europe, Africa and Strategy in 2019. Through 2020-2023 he served the company as Chief Executive Officer Operations.
Eugenio held a degree in Mining Engineering from the Politécnica University of Madrid (Spain) and a Masters of Economics and Strategy of the Colorado School of Mines (US).
