Until recently, this daily feature offered a regular snapshot of vibrant scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere. More recently, however, as the COVID-19 crisis has escalated, the images we have seen are increasingly ones of emptiness and eerie silence within airports. So it is very encouraging to post some photos of better news, this time from Hainan province, China.
It’s quite a while since we published a picture of the once so familiar sight of congratulatory flower bouquets outside a store that had just been opened. In fact, way too many have just been closed.
So we’re delighted to show you these two images, courtesy of the amazingly hard-working team at China Duty Free Group (CDFG), of the recently opened Hainan Duty Free Experience Stores, featuring the logos of Sanya CDF Mall and China Tourism Group (parent company of CDFG and China International Travel Services).
As revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report, the opening of the two stores was announced by Li Gang, Deputy General Manager of China Tourism Group, at a press conference in Haikou, Hainan on 11 April.
As reported, on 22 March Hainan’s provincial government announced a CNY150 million (US$21.2 million) rejuvenation plan for the island’s beleaguered tourism industry with duty free shopping at the heart of its plans. The new openings represent a core component of that rejuvenation, particularly with the all-important May holidays coming up.
