Images of the Day: Hong Kong International Airport celebrates its 25th anniversary

HONG KONG, CHINA. Today’s selection captures a joyous landmark in Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) history, as the Special Administrative Region’s gateway celebrated its 25th Anniversary.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) Chairman Jack So, Chief Executive Officer Fred Lam, Board Members and Executive Directors gathered yesterday with the airport community, passengers and members of the public as celebrations kicked off in the Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall.

Drum and jazz band performances were followed with dance shows by staff from the airport, home-based airlines and other airport companies. A youth orchestra and local pop singer Jay Fung also joined the entertainment.

Hong Kong International Airport moved from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok on 6 July 1998. To celebrate the 25-year landmark, three rounds of  music and dance performances were staged in the terminal yesterday.

Souvenirs were given away to passengers and airport staff to share the moment.
