Images of the Day: Food for (positive) thought at Hong Kong Airport

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Strange Nature gin from New Zealand celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

HONG KONG, CHINA. A packed food court is a reliable indicator of a thriving airport and that’s certainly the case at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) where my images (snapped earlier today), show plenty of passengers tucking into the impressively diverse array of culinary options available.

Having been through this outstanding gateway many times during its extended COVID nightmare when it resembled a cross beween a military hospital and a ghost town, I take particular pleasure seeing HKIA thriving once again.

Airport food & beverage (and wider hospitality services) will be under the spotlight at the Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Conference & Awards on 12-13 September in Bangkok, run by The Moodie Davitt Report. Click on the image to learn more.

Passenger traffic is still around -40% short of 2019 levels but the steep upwards trajectory (June figures were about ten times higher than the same month last year) looks sure to result in a return to pre-COVID figures in the not too distant future. As with those passengers dining happily in the food court (and other HKIA F&B outlets), that represents plenty of positive food for thought.
