Our regular feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

RUSSIA. Now this is what we call a real boost for both company and wider travel retail industry morale. Today Dufry CEO Julián Díaz was on hand as RegStaer, the Dufry-controlled travel retailer, formally inaugurated its newly refurbished duty free store at Pulkovo Airport in St Petersburg.

Díaz was accompanied by RegStaer Founder & Chairman Alexander Baev, airport officials, and other company representatives during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and store tour.

After such a sustained crisis in the the Russian and global travel retail sectors, we believe every opening should be celebrated. In that sense it is impressive to see the Dufry boss take the time and trouble to visit the frontline and to accompany his long-time friend and business associate Alexander Baev at such an important and symbolic moment in the industry’s recovery.

We’ll bring you a full report on the opening soon.
