Image of the Day: Louis Vuitton’s dazzling digital display at Changi Airport

Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

No, I haven’t been constantly changing the colour settings on my camera. All the shots above and below were taken within a couple of minutes on Thursday evening on my iPhone 8.

Their subject is Louis Vuitton’s magnificent Changi Airport Terminal 3 duplex store, opened in late 2017. The changing technicolour hues come courtesy of the store’s brilliant digital façade, the LED display* lighting up not just the store but adding spectacle to the whole terminal.

Is this the most wow store in the airport world? The most instagrammable? Judging by the number of travellers excitedly taking photos or selfies on Thursday night when I flew out of T3 (see my video below), it just might be. The way the entrance is framed makes it look as though visitors are walking onto a stage set. It’s enchanting.

The interior is pretty special too, including a museum-style archive of historic Louis Vuitton images housed upstairs. This is a powerful example of what airport retail can achieve, acting not just as a sales opportunity but also a showcase of brand values and heritage. Glorious.

*Radius Displays provided and installed the LED storefront in December 2017. The super-high resolution, curved, 2.5mm LED display is six metres high and 10.32 metres wide with a total resolution of 4128 (W) x 2400 (H).  Over 7 million pixels on 44 custom LED cabinets make up the storefront display.
