Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.
Today’s choice comes from Bangalore (Bengaluru), capital of India’s southern Karnataka state. It is courtesy of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) Chief Operating Officer Thomas Hoff Andersson, from LinkedIn.
Thomas, formerly of Copenhagen Airports, notes of the picture, “Our new extraordinary Terminal 2 rising: When opening in 2021, it will most likely be considered one of the most beautiful terminals in the world.”
I have few doubts of that and can’t wait to see the new facility. One of the highlights of my career was a preview visit to the then-greenfield Bangalore International Airport site in July 2007, less than a year before it was opened. “What a day this was. What a place it will be,” I wrote in my Blog after an enthralling experience of racing along the airport runway in a BIAL car (“As the driver put his foot down, for a moment I thought we might just become the airport’s first non-commercial flight.”)
Later we rode up the 60 metre high aviation control tower in an external wire cage usually reserved for workmen. My vertigo was just as bad then as it is today and while The Moodie Report’s philosophy has always been that the sky is the limit, this was getting worryingly close to fulfilling the prophesy.
Anyway, I look forward to returning to Bangalore International Airport 2 – unlike most sequels, this promises to be even better than the original.
