Image of the Day: Hainan hits new highs as July-August sales reach US$816 million

Our regular feature celebrates important and/or memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Now here are some images to cheer you in a year that has brought little in the way of good news.

They show that rarest and most welcome of 2020 travel retail sights – the queue. They were snapped this week by Mirko Wang, Founder & CEO of Jessica’s Secret, the highly successful price comparison app and data services provider to travel retail stakeholders.

The location? Hainan of course, where the CDF Mall in Haitang Bay, Sanya is doing roaring business, driven by the enhanced offshore duty free shopping policy introduced in July.

The ‘little brown bottle’ with the very big sales. The latest incarnation of the hugely popular Estée Lauder skincare brand draws big crowds into the beauty house’s boutique.

According to local media HiNews.cn, sales in all of Hainan’s duty free shops rose by a startling +221.9% year-on-year through July and August to RMB5.85 billion (about US$816 million). They are extraordinary numbers and will be music to the ears of the brands shown in the pictures on this page and all those with an established presence in Hainan.
