Image of the Day: Guerlain hits the heights in Haitang Bay

Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

CHINA. There are so many show-stopping scenes within China Duty Free Group’s extraordinary Haitang Bay International Shopping Complex, that it’s difficult to single one out, writes Martin Moodie. But this image, taken on my iPhone 6 yesterday, just sums up for me the sheer magnitude and impact of this sensational shopping centre and the magnificent showcase that it offers to brands.

This retail-to-dining emporium, more than any other in the travel retail world, has redefined the industry landscape, literally and metaphorically. This is now a US$1.1 billion business and with the recent increase in the offshore duty free allowance, that number is set to rocket.

If China Duty Free Group is hitting new heights, then so is Guerlain, with this high-profile communications installation, linked to a pop-up store below. It’s daring, dazzling and dramatic. Much like the store itself.
