Image of the Day: A showcase for Japanese art as Lagardère Travel Retail opens latest ‘Made in Pierre Hermé’ store in Tokyo

Our regular feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Lagardère Travel Retail has opened the latest store in Japan under its partnership with renowned pâtissier Pierre Hermé, this time at Shinjuku Lumine, the shopping area that serves Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. Notably, the store features eye-catching “neo-futuristic” Japanese artwork, highlighted in the images below. Neo-futurism is a late-20th to early-21st-century movement in art, design and architecture, which is influential in Japan.

Hailing the opening and partnership with the Pierre Hermé team, Lagardère Travel Retail Vice President Operations Nicolas Savary said on LinkedIn: “This Neo-futuristic Japanese garden will flourish for a few seasons.”

The opening comes just over a year after the retailer made its debut in Japan with a retail and food outlet at railway hub Tokyo Station.
