Image (and video) of the Day: Hermès beats the COVID-19 blues with a riot of red

Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

THAILAND. How about this for a cool way to beat the COVID-19 blues? Red wins the contest by a knockout.

The photos and video, captured earlier today (5 March), comes from King Power Rangnam, the Thai travel retailer’s leading downtown duty free store in Bangkok (the Srivaree complex is closed due to the COVID-19 crisis).

They show the encouraging sight of shoppers (mainly Chinese) forming a lengthy queue to buy the new Rouge Hermès, which launched this week at King Power and in many locations around the world.

According to King Power, Rouge Hermès Satin Lipstick in Rouge H #85 has proven to be very popular with Chinese consumers.

Marie Claire dubbed Rouge Hermès ‘The World’s Most Luxurious Lipstick’ in a lead article yesterday and it’s clear that plenty of travellers agree with that view.

There’s an important lesson here. Travel demand might soften due to the crisis. But product demand, especially in China, will not.
