Hyderabad Airport introduces contact-less car parking transactions

INDIA. GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) has introduced contact-less car parking transactions in response to demand for safe, hygienic payments. It is the first such experience at an Indian airport, said the airport company.

GHIAL has partnered with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) and banks to deliver the next phase of its FASTag car parking solution.

FASTag had been added last November but goes contactless using a reloadable electronic RFID tag. This enables automatic deduction of applicable parking charges, meaning users can drive through the car park without stopping.

The new solution will help reduce queues in the airport car parks, says GHIAL

GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker said: “As part of our commitment to providing a safe airport experience during the pandemic, we are happy to announce that now passengers and visitors can avail of a fully contactless car parking experience thanks to the collaboration with NPCI and NETC, which has now made our car parking fully compatible with any NETC FASTag issuing banks in India.

“The traditional mode of transaction with digital payment over-the-counter will also be available. However, for more safety and a contact-less experience, one could avail of the NETC FASTag option at the airport car parking.”

NPCI Chief Operating Officer Praveena Rai said: “We are delighted to associate with GHIAL to launch this first-of-its-kind contactless parking. We believe this service is set to make a safe hassle-free airport travel experience for customers, eradicating the need to deal with physical receipts.

“By venturing into this safe and contactless car park mechanism, customers would get rid of producing cash at the exit and long queue. We are confident that this collaboration will lay the foundation for empowering vehicle owners to go contactless and experience the innovative airport parking facility. In the COVID-19 situation, this will offer safety in making digital payments as well. This is a primary focus for us.”
