USA. HMSHost Foundation’s fight against poverty is having a positive impact on the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. Funds raised at a recent charity golf tournament at the Grandover Gold Resort provided US$30,000 in grants to local organisations.
Just last week, HMSHost Foundation marked its second anniversary with an Invitational Golf Classic which raised over US$200,000 to support charities fighting poverty.
Yesterday (21 October), representatives of HMSHost and Raleigh-Durham International Airport presented grants to the Durham and Raleigh Rescue Missions.
The Durham Rescue Mission is a faith-based organisation and shelter helping the homeless and those with addictions, while the Raleigh Rescue Mission provides emergency overnight shelter and residential recovery.
Grants were previously made to two other organisations. Blessings in a Backpack aims to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children who might otherwise go hungry and Classroom Central collects and distributes free school supplies to students living in poverty.
HMSHost Foundation President Paul Mamalian said: “HMSHost Foundation is proud to provide critical support to these charities that do so much for the community.
“These groups are very active in Raleigh-Durham and are well-aligned with key elements of our mission to fight poverty in the local community with food, shelter, education, and workforce development.”
Raleigh Rescue Mission is also supported by HMSHost Corporation’s restaurant operations at Raleigh-Durham International Airport through a food donation programme.
In collaboration with Second Harvest, HMSHost Corporation donates around 1,400lb of food to the mission each month. HMSHost Corporation said it donated around 1.5 million pounds of food to community food banks across the country in 2016.
The North Carolina-based Dale Jr. Foundation, a charity founded in 2007 by NASCAR Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., was one of the donors at the charity golf tournament. The foundation provides resources to underprivileged youth to improve their confidence and education, and the opportunity to achieve their goals. HMSHost Corporation partners with Earnhardt in the Dale Jr.’s Whisky River restaurant at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. They plan to open a further outlet at Raleigh-Durham International in January 2018.
