Hennessy limited edition by Marc Newson makes global debut with DFS at Changi

Another world first for Singapore Changi Airport.

SINGAPORE. Hennessy’s X.O 2018 limited edition by Marc Newson has been launched exclusively through duty free retailer DFS Group at Singapore Changi Airport before its worldwide premier in July.

The acclaimed designer has created a new variation following a first collaboration for the iconic Hennessy X.O decanter in 2017.

Hennessy and DFS are both majority-owned by French luxury conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, and this partnership showcases this latest limited edition in DFS stores across Changi’s terminals.

Passengers will have the opportunity to secure one of the sought-after decanters which come in a modern, transparent gift box design. The clear, ergonomic shape is moulded in a complex plastic more typically used for perfume bottles.

By scanning a QR code on the decanter, travellers are transferred to a 360° immersive video and get the chance to interact with Newson himself.

Moët Hennessy Managing Director Travel Retail Asia Pacific, Vanessa Widmann, commented: “We are very excited to partner with DFS Group and Changi Airport for the second time in a row to build on the successful limited edition launch of 2017.”

DFS Group Senior Vice President Spirits, Wine, Tobacco, Food and Gifts, Brooke Supernaw, added: “We are offering our travelling customers at Singapore Changi exclusive access to this fine product until the end of June.”

‘A streamlined variation’

For the 2018 limited edition, Newson used a dynamic, streamlined variation on the decanter’s iconic shape that breaks with conventions. A subtle gold colour with hues of rose is said to “amplify the blend inside” – originally created in 1870.

Though the bottle’s shape has been pared down, the designer chose to reprise its traditional decorative motifs – grapes and leaves – in a corrugated relief. “These striations are perhaps the most daring design elements ever incorporated on the iconic Hennessy X.O decanter,” said Hennessy. Newson commented: “For me, the straight lines really highlight the strength of the iconic shape of the Hennessy X.O decanter. When they catch the light, they magnify the blend – its colour and sensorial qualities.”
