Habanos introduces new warranty seal – 18/03/09

The new Cuban Warranty Seal with the personalised bar code on the left hand side and the hologram on the right

CUBA. Leading cigar supplier Habanos is introducing a new Cuban Warranty Seal in its packaging to safeguard the contents. For security, a hologram will be added on the right hand side and, on the left, next to the Cote d’Arms, a bar code will personalise every package.

The label will always be placed from the upper left side of the box or display, 3mm to 6mm from the edge and curving up to the front right over the centre of the Cote d’Arms, whenever possible.

The new seal has special characteristics, such as an auto-destructive feature on any attempt at removal, and has several additional maximum security features. They include:

– Non-transferred label. Any attempt to remove it will cause invalidation of the seal by self-destruction;
– Highly adherent paper (plastic) which is auto-destructive and self-destructive;
– Scan- and photocopy-protected system;
– The holographic band shows a bi-colour text in the second and third dimension;
– Elements with optical variations attached;
– It will enclose a micro dot only visible through a laser scanner.

A unique bar code will be applied on every box, customising every pack. This information will be saved in a database, allowing the identification of the product at all times, including to whom the product was addressed as well as the invoice number.

Habanos said that, for a period of time, both old and new Warranty Seal designs would exist at the same time in the market, adding that the length of time was not easy to foresee because it depended on the stocks and on the rotation of the different products.
