NEW ZEALAND/IRELAND. Johan Horstmann, CEO of Danish men’s grooming products company Horstmann 99ML, is the winner of our latest readers’ competition dedicated to the three-test rugby series between New Zealand and Ireland.
Johan came closest on points differential by plumping for an Irish victory by 21-9, just five points off the actual scoreline of 23-12 as the men in green turned around their heavy first test loss for an historic first win on New Zealand soil. He wins a bottle of Writers’ Tears Double Oak (pictured at the foot of the page).

Walsh Whiskey is offering readers the chance to win a fabulous bottle of whisky via a score prediction in each test and even a superb overall series prize.
Now it comes down to the decider not just for the two teams but also our contestants, many of whom are still in with a chance of winning the grand prize (a bottle of the limited edition Writers Tears’ Cask St. 2022) for best overall series predictions.
Remarkably, not a single contestant has picked the right winning side in both matches to date, meaning that many entrants are still in with a chance to win this fabulous prize (see rules below).
Walsh Whiskey is also offering a bottle of The Irishman Caribbean Cask Finish for the closest third test prediction.
The contest is particularly relevant to The Moodie Davitt Report with co-owners Martin Moodie and Dermot Davitt hailing from New Zealand and Ireland respectively. Having shed plenty of them each in week one and two, which of the two writers will be in tears come this Saturday?
Form Guide: The two teams have played a total of 35 test matches, with the All Blacks winning 30, lreland winning 4, and one ending in a draw in 1973. However, prior to this coming Saturday, lreland had won four of the previous seven encounters.
Before last weekend, the men in green had never won a test match in New Zealand. Can they make it two in a row and a first-ever series win? Get your bets on now.
The rules are simple:
- Pick the winning team (or draw) in each test and predict a score (you must be directly connected to the travel retail industry to enter).
- The winner must choose the correct result (i.e. Ireland win, All Blacks win or draw) and the closest entrant on total points differential (i.e. if the test ended 20-18 to the All Blacks, and you picked them to win 25-16 you would have a differential of 7; if Ireland win 25-12 and you said 23-10 in their favour your differential would be 4) takes out the prize for each test.
- To win the series prize, you must a) get all 3 test results correct or in the case of no-one achieving that b) have the closest overall differential for the three matches combined. As simple as a Beauden Barrett or Johnny Sexton drop goal.
- Send your prediction for the third and final test to Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘All Blacks v Ireland showdown’ by 18.00 New Zealand time (05:00 Ireland time) on 16 July. We will send out a reminder to all series entrants before the third test deadline.
- Judges’ decision is final.
