Germany takes the lead (and their leave…) in Moodie Davitt 2018 FIFA World Cup Charity Competition

INTERNATIONAL. A German triumph at the 2018 FIFA World Cup? Yes, it’s still possible folks despite the national team and reigning champions crashing out at the group stage yesterday after a shock 0-2 loss to little-fancied South Korea.

While a Seoul-searching Germany nation drowns its sorrows (and tries to drown its football team) after finishing fourth and last in their group, one German football fan can take some solace.

He’s Steffen Brandt, Co-Founder & Manager of Miami-based travel retail specialist InnoTRI (and former CEO of Heinemann Asia Pacific and Heinemann Americas), who remains top of his group at least in The Great Moodie Davitt 2018 FIFA World Cup Charity Competition after the latest round of matches on Wednesday.

Steffen Brandt scores from the spot for Germany

Steffen only advanced his points tally by one yesterday but thanks to it being a day of shocks (Sweden thrashed the hitherto dazzling Mexico 3-0 and unfancied Costa Rica drew with high flyers Switzerland), he maintained the slimmest of leads. It could have been greater if he had only taken our advice to pick South Korea

Steffen, now playing as a lone German striker in Russia, is one ahead of Moodie Davitt Report CTO (Chief Touchline Observer) Matt Willey and Tony Richardson of Duty Free Hunter.

As reportedKing Power International (Thailand), which controls English Premier League club Leicester City, is the event’s official brand partner.

Bonny Scot travel retail consultant and journalist John Gallagher, buoyed by the resurgence of his adopted nation Argentina, lurks menacingly (we’ve told him to stop doing that, but he just won’t listen). So do Steve Cox, Marketing Director at JCDecaux Airport in London, watching the matches on a giant Heathrow Airport advertising billboard; Johan Schölvinck of Market Square, who is ensuring that at least one Dutchman participates in this World Cup; and yesterday’s big mover, Denz Vanderlist of Cabeau, who will no doubt be offering one of his company’s excellent travel pillows to Steffen to cushion the blow of Germany’s defeat.

The following prize monies will be awarded to the chosen charities of the winning contestants

1st – €3,000

2nd – €2,000

3rd – €1,000

Cabeau’s travel pillows generated record sales to passengers on Lufthansa flights from Russia to Germany last night as German supporters sought to cushion the blow of their side’s shock exit.

There are some other fast movers too. Charles Roullet of Campari showed yesterday he is not bitter about earlier results, surging from 19th to tenth spot. Sophie Goujet of Concourse Display Management and Jenard Ng of top travel PR and communications firm Filtr are our top women, only five off the lead, while Karuna Tuli, daughter of renowned travel retail executive (and former Indian centre forward, which is where he always positions himself in group photos), Sunil, is in a commendable 16th place equal. Commendable that is, because its equal with The Moodie Davitt Report Chairman Martin Moodie.

Social media is awash with observations on Germany’s exit

Today’s four matches (Senegal v Columbia; Japan v Poland;  England v Belgium; and Panama v Tunisia) are certain to see another shake-up in an ever-changing leaderboard. In his role as ultimate industry neutral and advisor, Martin Moodie is urging the top 15 on the leaderboard to opt for the following results: Senegal 0-Columbia 0; Japan 0-Poland 12; England 6-Belgium 14; and Panama 7-Tunisia 7. You know you can trust the voice of the football website editor who never sleeps…

If you haven’t made your selections, do so now. There are great cash prizes to be won for some wonderful charities.
