Gebr Heinemann to exit Cologne-Bonn Airport at year-end

GERMANY. Gebr Heinemann will cease operations at Cologne/Bonn Airport when its current contract ends on 31 December, bringing to an end a 51-year partnership. Cologne/Bonn was the location for the company’s first airport retail concession in 1969.

Gebr Heinemann said the move was the result of “different ideas about the future contractual conditions of the cooperation between us and the airport with regard to shop space, concession fees and terms”.

Head of Corporate Communications Nina Semprecht added: “Cologne/Bonn Airport is a valued partner. We have a long history of working together more than 50 years in trustful cooperation. Against this background, we very much regret that we will not continue our partnership after the current retail concession expires.”

Gebr. Heinemann runs five shops across 1,800sq m at Cologne/Bonn Airport and employs around 100 staff.

The retailer said it plans to “immediately start negotiations with the workers’ council to draw up a social compensation plan, as unfortunately all employment relationships of the employees will end for operational reasons”.
