Gebr Heinemann Retail and Copenhagen Airports extend key retail concession for five years from 2018

DENMARK. In big breaking news, Gebr Heinemann has concluded a five-year extension for its key tax free shopping concession at Copenhagen Airport.

The extended term contract will now run from 1 March 2018. It follows ten years years of successful collaboration between the German travel retailer  (which operates six tax free shops covering some 3,600sq m at the Danish gateway) and Copenhagen Airports A/S.

Initial exploratory negotiations had already begun in good time to clarify options for an early extension of the original agreement, which officially runs until February 2018. These talks, which addressed long-term infrastructure plans at Copenhagen Airport, came to a successful conclusion reflected in today’s announcement.

“I’m delighted that we have attained this early agreement extension, as it not only highlights our partner’s trust in us, but it also reflects the success of our company, as well as our brand at the Copenhagen site”, said Spanger.

“In this respect, we will start converting our main shop in Terminal 2, which will be a benchmark for modern duty free shops with a completely new design and an even stronger presence for our focus on ‘Local Sense’.”

Copenhagen Airport Chief Commercial Officer Peter Krogsgaard also expressed delight with the continued collaboration. “A new prolongation with Heinemann allows us to plan our current airport development, which is needed to serve our growing passenger numbers and to offer our passengers the very best of airport retail,” he commented.

“It is a pleasure to prolong a fruitful partnership that will secure our passengers the best retail solutions, newest brands and with guaranteed savings.”

On 1 March Gebr. Heinemann Retail celebrated its ten-year anniversary at the Copenhagen site, which employs around 350 employees.
