TAJIKISTAN. The first airport duty free shop in Tajikistan was opened earlier today as head of state President Emomalii Rahmon inaugurated Dushanbe Airport’s new terminal.
The 400sq m multi-category shop is operated by TAD Duty Free, supported by Gebr Heinemann – which already works with TAD owner Jaroslav Schreder at Ufa Airport’s Ural Duty Free in Russia.
Dushanbe Airport serves up to 1.5 million international passengers a year – mainly Tajiks but also Russians and others – and hosts services from carriers including Tajik Airlines, Somon Air, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, UT Air and Fly Dubai.
Gebr Heinemann’s Bernard Schlafstein told The Moodie Report: “We strongly believe in Tajikistan and the future of business there. The economic factors are positive and that is why we have decided to step into the market.”
