Garrett Popcorn Shops opens third location at Chicago O’Hare International

USA. Garrett Popcorn Shops has opened a third location at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Situated in Terminal 5 near Gate M12, it adds to the gourmet popcorn specialist’s existing venues in terminals 1 and 3.

Established in Chicago 70 years ago, the Garrett Popcorn Shops brand is known for handcrafting small batches of gourmet popcorn using secret family recipes and a blend of hot-air popped kernels.

Midway Restaurant Development’s Farhana Rahim and Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Jamie Rhee join Garrett Popcorn staff to raise a popcorn toast at the new location.

The new outlet is operated in partnership with two local businesses that are certified Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE): Midway Restaurant Development and Pastorelle Marketing Group.

Since opening its first shop at Chicago O’Hare in 2008, Garrett Popcorn Shops’ accolades have included Best Airport Grab-and-Go Dining Brand, awarded by USA Today.

Garrett popcorn recipes include CaramelCrisp, CheeseCorn, vegan Buttery and Plain, and the signature Garrett Mix, combining CaramelCrisp and CheeseCorn.

The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) said that two more Garrett Popcorn Shops will open at Chicago’s other major airport, Midway International, by 2020. They will form part of a US$75 million redevelopment of the airport’s concessions programme.

CDA Commissioner Jamie Rhee commented: “This new Garrett location is a taste of what’s to come as we expand opportunities for our travellers to shop, dine and relax.”

Representatives from Garrett Popcorn Shops, Midway Restaurant Development, Pastorelle Marketing Group and Chicago Department of Aviation cut the ribbon at the official opening of the new Garrett Popcorn Shop.

Garrett Popcorn Shops is part of Garrett Brands, a privately held Chicago-based company which has corporate offices in Chicago, Singapore and Tokyo.

New food & beverage outlets at Chicago O’Hare T5 form part of a US$1.2 billion expansion that will add 10 new gates, an expanded security checkpoint, and more space for concessions and amenities.
