Fraport and Lufthansa join forces to expand digital shopping at Frankfurt

GERMANY. A digital shopping platform that enables travellers to purchase products for delivery within half an hour has been launched at Frankfurt Airport.

The “˜Lounge Shopping’ service is the result of a partnership between airport company Fraport and airline Lufthansa.

Available in selected Lufthansa lounges at the airport, passengers can use supplied iPads to purchase exclusive products from airport stores and have them delivered within thirty minutes.

The online products range from fine delicacies and spirits to fashion accessories and leather goods, according to the two companies, and the selection will be expanded in the coming months.

In addition to the Lounge Shopping service for departing passengers, a new “˜Inflight Shopping’ service for incoming travellers will also be introduced during the first quarter of 2016.

On long-haul flights to Frankfurt, Lufthansa passengers will be able to purchase exclusive products from airport stores during their flight and collect them at the arrival gate immediately after landing.

Lufthansa and Fraport will also launch a “˜Taste & Travel’ gourmet service in “the near future”. The digital service allows Lufthansa passengers to use iPads available at the check-in area and near security checkpoints to choose menus for delivery to the departure gate.

The food is then delivered in “high quality and heat-insulating” packaging, giving passengers the option to eat onboard.
