MAURITIUS. Times OOH recently conceptualised and executed a ‘Football Fever’ event at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSRIA) in Mauritius to coincide with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The month-long event attracted widespread support from advertisers across key media platforms in the travel hub.
The event kicked off on 20 November, the day of the World Cup’s opening match, with music and celebrations, dancers, mascot interaction with children, a bespoke event-related photo booth and an MC engaging passengers with trivia games and prizes.

Zones with large-screen TVs were set up at key locations in SSRIA’s departures and arrivals areas and outside the airport. Departing passengers also had the opportunity to play a game on a Foosball table in the screening area.
Leading brands with interests in Mauritius sponsored the event, having secured branding and advertising opportunities aincluding ten high-impact static sites and 45 digital screens. The sponsors included Casela, Campus Abroad Mauritius, Bank of Baroda, Scott, Adamas and Blue Safari. 361 came onboard as the screening partner.

Casela is one of the most popular leisure and attraction parks in Mauritius. The company’s General Manager Thierry Arekiom said of the advertising opportunity generated by Football Fever: “The airport is a key media vehicle for us to reach international travellers. With the tourist season taking off, this event was just the right fit for us. With a high decibel campaign, in association with football, we are sure to generate excitement with incoming tourists for Casela Parks.”
Director of fellow advertiser Campus Abroad Mauritius, Jaishankar Sheshadri, said: “We are delighted to be a part of the Football Fever event at the SSR International Airport. The association with football allowed us to create a buzz for Campus Abroad with our key target audience of young travellers and locals alike. The energy there was palpable and the event itself was very exciting. Kudos to the Times OOH team for a well-orchestrated execution.”
Times OOH noted that the execution of the Football Fever event required meticulous planning and close coordination with airport authorities, the Mauritius Department of Civil Aviation, local police, gig artists, sponsors, fabricators and printers to begin on schedule and run smoothly.

The company’s Mauritius General Manager Dev Dutt Das said: “This is a sponsorship opportunity that comes only once every four years. The airport is the first and last contact point for visiting travellers. We envisaged this event to make their journey through the airport welcoming, entertaining and lots of fun.”
He added: “We are extremely proud of this unique event. It enthrals passengers from all over the world and of all ages. We would like to thank our sponsors for making it a roaring success. We would also like to thank the airport authorities for their support and trust. We hope to have many such events that make the experience at SSRIA fun and enjoyable.”
