“This win reaffirms our position as the number one duty free player in the region.“ |
Atul Ahuja CEO Flemingo International |
INDIA. Flemingo International has been awarded duty free concessions at nine airports across India run by Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The airports are Chennai, Kolkata, Calicut, Trichy, Mangalore, Goa, Ahmadabad, Amritsar and Lucknow. All the concessions are for seven years except for Trichy which runs for ten.
“We are very pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with Airports Authority of India and to get further proof, in face of some stiff competition, that our approach is a winning one,” said Flemingo International CEO Atul Ahuja. “This win reaffirms our position as the number one duty free player in the region.
“Flemingo’s footprint will be highly visible to the international travellers as Chennai and Kolkata airports are amongst the top five international airports with connections to all the major destinations across the world.”
The new concessions (other than Trichy) will run from 2016 -2023 and cover liquor, tobacco, confectionery, perfumes & cosmetics, fashion, fashion accessories, electronics and destination categories.
“Since making our debut in India, we have developed an understanding of the market which is next to none,” Ahuja said. “We look forward to delivering world-class service for the AAI airports and its passengers.”
Commenting on this development, Chennai International Airport Director Deepak Shastri said, “We are delighted to have Flemingo International partner us in bringing alive the retail & duty free concepts at the international airports across India. This partnership has worked for us in the past and now we are looking forward to some exciting new concepts to provide passengers a unique experience and world-class duty free shopping.”
In related news, Flemingo India will now be headed by Anirban Dutta Chowdhury, who joined Flemingo India recently as the Chief Executive Officer from The Nuance Group India.
Commenting on the tender success, Chowdhury said: “We would like to thank the Airport Authority of India for having accepted our proposal and giving us the opportunity to continue working with them.”
He said that Flemingo has developed a detailed understanding of the changing needs of the Indian passengers over the last few years and had proposed a retail offer which is very global in its appeal. “We are confident that we will continue to delight the passengers passing through the airports,” he said.
He continued: “A contract duration of at least seven years and with commercial space increasing twofold in most of the locations, gives us an added impetus to roll out our new store concepts and more effective merchandising & marketing plans.”
Flemingo International has also undertaken a host of new e-initiatives including the launch of Flemingo Reserve, the pre-order site for all Flemingo operations. This dedicated pre-order service (http://flemingodutyfree.com/ Flemingo Reserve), will be available across Indian airports where Flemingo operates.
