INDIA. Flemingo Group’s corporate social responsibility arm The Flemingo Foundation is to set up a computer lab at a school attended by children from low-income communities across Mumbai and Pune.
Flemingo has partnered with The Akanksha Foundation, a non-profit organisation that has created a network of urban public-private partnership schools in India.
The computer lab will be located in the Lakshmi Nagar Mumbai Public School in Mumbai, India. The parents of children attending the school are mostly employed in the private sector as house helps or are public transport drivers.
It will be used by the students to learn basic computer skills and work towards maximising their potential. The computers will also aid in the professional development of the teachers at the public school – to prepare lesson plans, develop effective teaching aids and to track student progress.
The computer literacy project at the school is the first step of The Flemingo Foundation’s association with Akanksha.
The Flemingo Foundation today supports the Music Project in Sri Lanka, which brings together children from different backgrounds and religions. In the past, it also ran a successful educational programme in Sri Lanka, to raise awareness among schoolchildren, their parents and educators as part of its ‘Stop Abuse’ campaign. The Foundation has also sponsored SOS villages in Africa and Chennai, India.
