Finavia launches biggest-ever commercial tender in new Non-Schengen terminal at Helsinki Airport

FINLAND. Finavia, the operator of 21 airports in Finland, is calling for new commercial operators at Finland’s largest international gateway, Helsinki Airport.

The tender is the biggest-ever for the airport’s new Non-Schengen terminal. It includes 13 new commercial spaces for retail and food & beverage [Note: Finavia and Helsinki Airport are hosting this year’s annual Airport Food & Beverage – FAB – Conference & Awards, organised by The Moodie Davitt Report, starting tomorrow].

“Helsinki Airport ranks as the best airport in Northern Europe,” said Finavia Commercial Director and Vice President of Finavia at Helsinki Airport Elena Stenholm. “We are known for our continuously developing airport and we work hard with our partners to offer our air passengers as smooth and memorable a customer experience as possible.

“Our 20 million annual passengers in 2018 and anticipated strong passenger growth will offer an interesting and international customer base for any commercial operator.”

Helsinki Airport’s passenger traffic is growing strongly, underpinned by its positioning as a key gateway between Asia and Europe

Finavia has a billion-Euro development programme in progress at Helsinki Airport. The terminal space will increase by +45%, expanding by 103,000sq m. In line with this programme, Finavia is preparing to serve 30 million passengers per year by 2030.

The 13 commercial spaces available total 1,081sq m. Twelve of them are new and located in the up-coming Helsinki Airport T2 Non-Schengen area and one of them already exists in the Schengen area. The spaces will be tendered in three categories:

  • 5 spaces for premium retail, total of 507sq m
  • 4 spaces for high-end luxury retail, total of 243sq m
  • 4 spaces for F&B, total of 331sq m

Premium and luxury retail include jewellery, watches, sunglasses, leathergoods and fashion apparel. The premium shops and boutiques are due to open in summer/autumn 2019 and spring 2020 and the luxury retail units in spring 2020 and spring 2021, depending on the exact location.

Spaces reserved for Food & Beverage include a smoothie bar, a luxury tea-house, a Champagne bar and a café. Depending on the location, they will open in autumn 2019, spring 2020 and summer 2021.

“The driving forces behind all commercial services at Helsinki Airport are high quality, diversity of offering and personal service excellence,” said Ms Stenholm. “As an international airport, we pay a lot of attention to the needs and preferences of many different nationalities, which is of particular relevance to the extending Non-Schengen terminal, with its fast-growing Asian and European clientele.

“We also aim to create a true Sense of Place and this will be clearly seen in the upcoming commercial offering as well as in visual, conceptual and digital solutions.”
