Duty Free World launches “revolutionary” digital inflight retail programme

Duty_Free_World_LogoUSA. Miami-based inflight concessionaire Duty Free World is to pioneer a digital duty free programme, which it describes as “the first of its kind in the industry”, beginning 1 April.

Through the technologically advanced programme, customers will be able to view a wide array of products, including those currently featured within United Airline’s onboard catalogue, order them online and have them delivered virtually anywhere in the US.

As reported, United Airlines is dropping its physical onboard retail programme, sourced and managed by Duty Free World, from 31 March.

Explaining the business model further, Duty Free World VP and Chief Operating Officer Leylani Cardoso told The Moodie Davitt Report: “United will continue to receive their commission as they will refer passengers through their site as through the catalogue that will be placed onboard.”

The programme was conceived as a test two years ago in conjunction with the traditional onboard programme, Duty Free World said.

The company commented: “This advanced programme has continuously been evolving to meet the needs of the travelling customer. The website, dutyfreeonboard.com, delivers enormous value to customers. All international travellers can use the website to purchase traditional duty free products, exclusive items and obtain brand insights that include tutorials as well as make-up tips.”
