UAE. Dubai Duty Free Senior Vice President – Finance Bernard Creed has been awarded a doctorate in philosophy (PhD) for his thesis entitled ‘Airport Shopping: A Study of Sequential Purchasing at Dubai Duty Free’.
According to Dubai Duty Free, Creed’s research is the first of its kind in the travel retail industry to be recognised at doctoral level. Bernard Creed presented the thesis at the University of Wollongong in Dubai.

His work, based on data from Dubai Duty Free, Dubai International Airport and other external sources, considered factors found in an airport shopping environment that influence sequential purchasing.
Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Colm McLoughlin said: “Congratulations to Bernard for successfully defending his thesis to earn his doctorate degree. I know that there was a lot of hard work involved on Bernard’s side and I am sure that the findings in the dissertation will be relevant and informative tor the duty free industry as a whole.”

Creed has over 17 years’ experience in the duty free industry. He worked for Bahrain Duty Free from 1998 to 2001 and for Dubai Duty Free from 2001 until 2007. He returned to Dubai Duty Free in May 2010 to head up the Finance Department as Financial Controller. Creed was named Senior Vice President – Finance in September 2016.
