DFS reopens Okinawa and gets set for Venice restart

INTERNATIONAL. DFS Group, the world’s leading luxury travel retailer, reopened its T Galleria by DFS on the Japanese island of Okinawa on 20 June. And in a further boost, it will reopen T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS in Venice on 1 July.

Back in business. T Galleria by DFS Okinawa opened its doors once more last weekend.

Like all travel retailers, DFS has been hard hit by the COVID-19 crisis but the reopenings mark an improvement in two key tourist-driven markets – Okinawa driven by domestic Japanese tourism and Venice one of the world’s most popular tourist spots.

DFS said: “We continue to assess when and how to open our stores based on the local health situation as well as customer traffic, and are doing everything we can to ensure our stores are safe and hygienic for all.”

Closed, but not for much longer. T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS, surely the world’s most beautiful duty free store, reopens on 1 July.

Footnote: The Moodie Davitt Report is consolidating the many store and F&B reopenings that are now thankfully happening with increasing frequency in a daily column called #TimeforTravel. Click here to read.
