DFS launches new Santos de Cartier watch at T Galleria by DFS, Macau

MACAU. Cartier has teamed up with DFS Group to host an exhibition at T Galleria by DFS, Macau, Shoppes At Four Seasons to showcase the new Santos de Cartier timepieces.

The digital exhibition, open until the end of May, features two semi-open rooms. The Santos de Cartier watches take centre stage in one room, while the other contains a data hub illuminated by LED lighting and digital screens.

The digital exhibition harnesses special lighting effects, dynamic aesthetics and contrasting textures, with an emphasis on lacquered black and brushed metal

DFS Group Senior Vice President Fashion, Watches, Jewelry and Accessories Christophe Chaix said: “The introduction of the new Santos de Cartier watch demonstrates what DFS and Cartier do best; offering extraordinary pieces through our unrivalled commitment to high-end quality.”

Cartier International Travel Retail Director Cecile Naour added: “Partnering with DFS Group on this exciting new exhibition will enable visitors to see and experience first-hand, the cutting-edge universe of our exceptional Santos de Cartier timepiece.”

The new Santos de Cartier features a calibre 1847 MC, which incorporates anti-magnetic nickel phosphorus components in the escapement and movement mechanisms. The watch also comes with a shield made from a paramagnetic alloy, which is claimed to make it resistant to powerful magnetic fields in everyday situations.

The screw-down assembly design enables water resistance up to 100 metres with minimal case thickness, said Cartier.

Santos de Cartier’s strap is available in steel, gold, calfskin or alligator skin, with all versions interchangeable due to the Cartier QuickSwitchsystem (patent pending) hidden under the strap. This invisible mechanism blends into the structure of the case and is said to be simple for the wearer to activate.

The timepiece’s SmartLink self-fitting technology (patent pending) enables the length of the metal bracelet to be adjusted to the nearest link without the use of a tool. At the touch of a button located on each SmartLink, the attachment bar is unlatched and one of the brushed metal links with screws can be added or removed from the Santos de Cartier watch.

“Rigorous quality control measures”: The Santos de Cartier has been tested for its resistance to factors which could interfere with accuracy
The Cartier QuickSwitchsystem means that all straps are interchangeable

“Every Santos de Cartier watch has been assembled, calibrated and tested by the Cartier Manufacture workshops for resistance to variations in position, humidity, temperature and pressure, exposure to impact and acceleration, to prevent these factors from interfering with the accuracy,” said Cartier.

“In the decisive final stage of watchmaking, quality control measures are even more rigorous for the new Santos de Cartier, with the objective of guaranteeing optimum levels of performance and reliability throughout the entire service life of a watch.”

How the first Santos de Cartier was born

Aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont met master jeweller Louis Cartier in 1900 and the pair’s resulting friendship provided a catalyst for progress. After the aviator noted the difficulty of checking the time on his pocket watch while flying, Louis Cartier invented the first purpose-designed modern wristwatch for his friend in 1904.
