Delaware North opens dining outlets at Sydney Central Railway Station

AUSTRALIA. Delaware North has opened two new food & beverage outlets at Sydney’s Central Railway Station, with a third to follow next week.

The privately-owned hospitality and food service company had its 25-year partnership with Sydney Trains extended earlier this year, when it successfully bid to operate new venues within the station.

Switchman Espresso, which provides takeaway coffee, snacks and other refreshments, is already open. Another outlet that has opened this week comes in the substantial form of Central Food Market & 2000 Acres, provider of takeaway and dine-in options.

The Central Food Market offers a wide range of cuisines.
Delaware North’s 2000 Acres outlet offers takeaway and dine-in options.

The trio of openings will be completed by the bar and grill Eternity, next week (26 September). Described by Delaware North as the “signature venue” of the new outlets, it will accommodate 220 guests and showcase New South Wales wines, beers and ingredients.

The company said the design and fit-out of each new outlet was inspired by the high ceilings, stained glass windows, flooring and heritage murals at Sydney Central Railway Station.

Delaware North Managing Director Gary Brown said: “We have every confidence Sydney commuters and others that frequent Central Railway Station will enjoy what these new venues have to offer, and that they will quickly become a vibrant part of the fabric of this historic Sydney building.”

Delaware North Sydney Central Railway General Manager Andre Slootweg said sourcing local ingredients was a priority for chefs and catering staff at the new venues. “We’ve gone to great lengths to use local ingredients for all our fresh food where practicable and much of the wine and beer on our menus hail from regional winemakers and craft brewers.”

Sydney Trains Chief Executive Howard Collins welcomed the new openings: “This is an exciting opportunity to bring the elegance of the grand old days of train travel into a modern setting. It will make Central a more vibrant and attractive place not only as a stop on a journey, but as a destination.”

Delaware North’s designs were influenced by the station’s architecture.
