CHINA. China National Service Corporation (CNSC) has been awarded the departures duty free contracts at Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport’s new Terminal 3, which is currently under construction.

Guiyang Longdongbao is the gateway to Guizhou Province in southwest China, whose capital is the city of Guiyang.

The eight-year concession, effective from when the new terminal’s International Departure Hall opens, covers a 893sq m duty free store.

Guiyang Longdongbao Airport is a large-scale regional hub in southwest china, serving a total 21.9 million passengers in 2019, up +9% year-on-year.

The award consolidates CNSC’s growing presence in the southwest region, where the travel retailer also secured the duty free arrivals shop contract at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport , where it opened a 572m sq m store in 2017 that has traded successfully since.

“This is another important breakthrough… which is of great significance in further enhancing the linkage and synergy of our strategic development in the southwest region,” CNSC said.

Rapid momentum for CNSC

The latest award continues CNSC’s impressive recent progress. The retailer was last month awarded three departures duty free contracts at leading Chinese airports – Nanchang Changbei International, Quanzhou Jinjiang International and Nanjing Lukou International.

CNSC also secured three land port departure store contracts, at Longzhou Shuikou port (on the border with Vietnam), Pingxiang Friendship Pass (one of the most famous passes in China and a key point of political, economical and cultural communication between Vietnam and China), and Jian port, respectively.

As first revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report earlier this year, the Sinopharm-controlled retailer is also preparing to inaugurate its first duty free store in Hainan in December. In September, CNSC also celebrated the Grand Opening of a new-look downtown duty free store in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province.
