Clarification: Macau International Airport Company launches open tender for duty free liquor, tobacco and general merchandise

Take-off time: Passenger traffic at the gateway to the Special Administrative Region is rebounding fast, having reached 60% of 2019 levels in July

MACAU, CHINA. Macau International Airport Company (CAM) today (23 August) launched an open tender for a duty free liquor & tobacco services sub-concession at Macau International Airport (MIA).

[Clarification: This tender is separate from the existing contracts held by Cdfm (a joint venture between China Duty Free Group and King Power Group Hong Kong), which expires next May and The Shilla Duty Free concession, which ends approximately a year later. As a result, neither of the incumbents can bid on the new opportunity.]

In line with the airport’s commercial modification plan, the Request for Proposals (RFP) will result in the selection of a single retailer to offer liquor & tobacco with the option to include general merchandise – but not perfumes & cosmetics.

If the Bidder also operates general merchandise, the category should represent no more than 157sq m or 25% of the total area. A minimum of 75% of the total space (471sq m) shall be reserved for liquor and tobacco.

The successful bidder might also have an opportunity to provide duty free liquor & tobacco services in the designated area/s in MIA’s future auxiliary passenger terminal located at Taipa Ferry Terminal. This would be subject to negotiation between CAM and the successful bidder.

A pre-bid meeting will be held on 12 September at 10:30am (Macau local time) at the Passenger Terminal Building.
