Clap for our Carers – Travel Retail (Updated): The industry comes together to salute COVID-19 front-liners

INTERNATIONAL. Figures from across the travel retail community have embraced The Moodie Davitt Report’s call to join together and applaud the work of the medical community worldwide – especially the doctors, nurses and other frontline staff involved helping the world deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking our cue from individual initiatives across the world, The Moodie Davitt Report asked members of the industry community, whether at home in isolation or at work in offices, downtown stores or at airports, to join a worldwide burst of applause on 31 March (#ClapforourCarersTravelRetail).

Here is our latest update:

Chapter 4 – A thunderous round of applause in Vancouver

In chapter 4, we showcase an inspiring clip from George, Nicolas, Yasmina, and Tamara, the family of Caviar House & Prunier Chairman Peter Rebeiz. With special canine (and Oscar-wining) appearances from ‘Samy’ and ‘Nemus’ Rebeiz.

We also highlight applause from Toronto Pearson Airport VP Customer and Terminal Services Scott Collier; Toronto Pearson Airport Director Commercial Development Giovanna Verrilli; Mondelez World Travel Retail Managing Director Jaya Singh; Travel Retail Consultant John Kilmartin; Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail Chairman and CEO Mohit Lal; JES Travel Retail International Brand Management Consultant Tim Jobber; Paccaya Founder Andrew Ford; and SEVA Group Managing Director Organic Solutions Roger Jackson.

Elsewhere in Canada, Spark President & Founder Heidi Van Roon gave us a glimpse of how Vancouver is honouring its health workers every night at 7pm with a thunderous round of applause. Thank you all. Stay committed. Stay safe.

Earlier we received many contributions from companies and individuals, which we present in instalments here.

Chapter 1 – The Moodie Davitt Report Family

Our first video features The Moodie Davitt Report team, who applauded health workers in their communities and around the world. They paid particular tribute to Spanish hospital staff who tried so hard to save the life of Ramon Revilla, father of our Publisher Irene Revilla; Ramon sadly passed away on 26 March.

Chapter 2: Travel retail women, men…. and man’s best friend

We received mighty contributions from James Richardson Chairman Garry Stock (with a subtle walk-on performance from one of the Stock family’s dogs, Sofie) in Israel; IAADFS Board Member (and long-time President) David Bernstein in the US; King Power Group (Hong Kong) CEO Sunil Tuli; Jonathan Holland & Associates Owner Jonathan Holland in Singapore; ASUTIL Secretary General José Luis Donagaray in Uruguay; Essence Corp Vice President Patricia Bona in Miami; plus lovely collaborative efforts from the teams at Singaporean communications and design agency FILTR.

Chapter 3: Dubai

We feature further shows of tremendous support from members of the travel retail community. We begin with the team at Dubai Duty Free joined together to applaud the brave health care workers working to curb the COVID-19 pandemic (more on their contribution below).

Others taking part include Duty Free World Council President Sarah Branquinho, Al Nassma Chocolates Sales Director Patrick Dorais, Behn Group Global Sales Director Torben Vedel Andersen, Butlers Chocolates Sales Director Karl Marnane, Duty Free Global Founder Barry Geoghegan, William Grant & Sons Managing Director Ed Cottrell, Kreol Group CEO Lal Arakulath, Peuch et Besse CEO Sylvain Combe, Caviar House & Prunier Chairman Peter Rebeiz, Ontario International Airport Chief Commercial Officer Dan Cappell and ASUTIL General Events Coordinator Inés Sisto Patrón.

It was inspiring too to witness the support of staff and management at travel retailers Qatar Duty Free, Delhi Duty Free and Dubai Duty Free, which despite the difficulties they face, brought entire teams of people together to honour brave medical front liners all over the world.
