CHINA. New locally transmitted COVID-19 cases increased to 94 yesterday across the Mainland, as the country continues its battle to contain the worst outbreak since that in Wuhan in 2020.

However,  there were no new cases reported for the third successive day in Hainan province, home to the booming offshore duty free industry and heavily dependent on domestic tourism.

Similarly, Macau saw its fifth successive day without a locally transmitted case. The Special Adminstrative Region is on red alert after a handful of cases over recent weeks.

Encouragingly, there were no new cases in Nanjing, where the latest outbreak began.

The National Health Commisson of the People’s Republic of China reported 38 cases in Jiangsu (of which Nanjing is the capital), 41 in Henan province, 12 in Hunan province and 3 in Hubei province).

There were an additional 31 imported cases.

State media Global Times, which has devoted impressively fast and accurate coverage to the pandemic since it began, reports on better news from Nanjing. Click on image to read the full article.
