CDFG-led Sunrise Duty Free opens Shanghai Hongqiao Airport arrivals store

CHINA. Sunrise Duty Free, the China Duty Free Group-controlled Chinese travel retail giant, today opened an arrivals duty free store at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport’s revamped Terminal 1.

As reported, Sunrise Duty Free (Shanghai Co), the 51% subsidiary of China Duty Free Group (CDFG), signed a seven-year contract with Shanghai International Airport Co on 7 September for all duty free operations at Shanghai Hongqiao International and Shanghai Pudong International airports.

China Duty Free Group (CDFG) described Shanghai Hongqiao International as one of the busiest airports in China. T1 went into full operation on 15 October after a four-year renovation. T1 mainly handles flights to and from Hong Kong, Macao, Taipei, Japan and South Korea.

The airport handles around 3 million inbound and outbound passengers annually, a figure expected to climb to 5 million in the near term, said CDFG.

Arriving in style: The extensive Sunrise Duty Free offer is designed to encourage Chinese travellers especially to shop upon their return to the country.

The CDFG/Sunrise Duty Free store in T1’s Building A international arrival area covers some 546sq m and is designed to serve the shopping needs of Chinese and international passengers.

The store offers a wide array of fragrances, cosmetics, tobacco, liquor, international fashion and luxury items, and other goods “This range provides consumers with a richer product mix and more attractive prices, further enhancing the consumer experience of domestic and foreign tourists,” CDFG said.

Shangahi Hongqiao International Airport is enjoying strong passenger growth and arrivals duty free business is expected to be commensurately brisk.

High-end skincare is pivotal to the Sunrise offer.

Many of travel retail’s blue-chip brands featured in the store at today’s landmark opening. They include Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Sulwhasoo, Guerlain, Sisley, Montblanc, Lego, Godiva, Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Royal Salute and Guojiao 1573 (a renowned Chinese premium liquor brand). Heavy promotional activity is taking place to celebrate the opening.

Many of the world’s most renowned international spirits brands join a strong line-up of famous Chinese liquors in an extensive drinks offer.
