Cathay Pacific awards inflight retail programme to Retail inMotion

HONG KONG. Retail inMotion, the onboard retail division of LSG Group, has been awarded the contract to manage the travel retail programme for Cathay Pacific Group, covering both Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon. The current incumbent is Inflight Sales Group.

From early 2020, Retail inMotion will begin servicing the retail needs of more than 35 million passengers on both Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon.

From early 2020, Retail inMotion will assume full management responsibility of both airlines’ boutique and duty free retail programme. According to Retail inMotion, it will “work in partnership with each carrier to enhance the customer experience while delivering financial returns”.

In 2018, Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon carried a total of 35.47 million passengers, an increase of 1.9% compared to 2017.

The new contract with Retail inMotion covers the complete range of retail services, from product sourcing and management to warehousing and distribution, crew training and engagement, catalogue design and customer service.

Retail services will be enabled using Retail inMotion’s proprietary onboard platform, Vector In-Flight, which supports both front-end devices for payment processing and fulfilment, as well as back-end systems for reconciliation, inventory and warehouse management, and reporting functionality.

Building a strong team in Kong Kong

Retail inMotion has recently been recruiting for new staff in Hong Kong covering a number of roles in the company’s onboard retail department. At least seven positions were advertised. They included a Retail Director responsible for developing and maintaining a retail strategy and partnering with the technology and product development teams “to conceptualise and develop a successful procurement project for a major new client”.

Other roles advertised included: Retail Administrator, Senior Category Manager, Crew Engagement Manager, Stock Planner & Merchandise Coordinator, Junior Category Manager, and Operations Manager.
