Bottled in Bond: Brown-Forman unveils travel-exclusive Jack Daniel’s edition

Brown-Forman Global Travel Retail will unveil new travel retail-exclusive Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond at next month’s TFWA Exhibition & Conference. The launch comes on the 120th anniversary of the United States Congress passing the Bottled In Bond Act in 1897.

Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond, a permanent line extension in the Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands, will be available in major airports and other international points of departure and arrival around the world. It will begin shipping in summer 2018.

Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett described the new Bottled In Bond as a wonderful tribute to the transformative era of American whiskey-making in the late 1890s. It was then when Jack Daniel began bottling his Tennessee Whiskey and the Bottled In Bond Act was approved in Washington, DC.

Brown-Forman’s Marshall Farrer described the new expression as a “must-have for Jack Daniel’s fans and whiskey aficionados around the world”

“Whiskey-making in the 1800s too often produced a hodge-podge of sub-par, counterfeit and even dangerous spirits. Whiskey drinkers at times weren’t sure of what exactly they were drinking or being served,” Arnett said. “To bring a high level of safety and consistency to American whiskies, the United States Congress passed the Bottled In Bond Act which certified the quality of whiskey carrying that designation.

“It had to be aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof at one distillery during a single season. The Bottled In Bond Act was passed in 1897.  Mr. Jack began putting his Tennessee Whiskey in the now-familiar square bottle in two years earlier in 1895.”

Brown-Forman Global Travel Retail Senior Vice President and Managing Director Marshall Farrer commented: “One of Jack Daniel’s most famous sayings was ‘Every day we make it, we’ll make it the best we can’ and the distillery in Lynchburg has been making the iconic Tennessee whiskey that way every day for over 150 years. In many ways, the introduction of Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond is a step back into the early days of the distillery when Jack Daniel’s was pioneering the craft of making Tennessee Whiskey.

“We think so much of this whiskey that we are making it a permanent member of the Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands – a cautious step we take only with the most special of new products.”

Lynne Tolley, the great grandniece of Jack Daniel and a fixture at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery since 1980, will be making her inaugural visit to Cannes to participate in the launch. She will be hosting tastings of Jack Daniel’s Bottled In Bond TFWA World Exhibition on the Brown-Forman stand (Beach Village, B03)
