Boost for Hainan travel as entire island is designated ‘low risk’ for COVID-19

CHINA (HAINAN). In a welcome boost for the duty free industry, all of Hainan Island was yesterday designated as a ‘low risk’ zone for COVID-19, following the change in status for an industrial zone in Haikou, which had previously been deemed ‘medium risk’.

The news was reported by Hainan Hinews Media Co, Hainan’s leading media house and The Moodie Davitt Report’s strategic partner in Hainan.

Lu Tian Qin, Chief TV Host of Hinews.cn Media (who is also Head of the Duty Free Channel on the hugely popular 新海南 (New Hainan) app), told The Moodie Davitt Report: “This is great news. All of Hainan has been designated as a low-risk area.”

The updated status offers further reassurance about the impact of health and safety measures taken by Hainan authorities and travel retailers to prevent the spread of COVID-19

The update comes against the backdrop of an outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in China, which authorities have been battling to control, leading to a sharp negative impact on domestic tourism. Their efforts have been encouraging with just five indigenous cases reported on 18 August across Jiangsu province (three), Shanghai and Yunnan.

Encouragingly, no new cases have been reported in either of China’s travel retail hotspots, Hainan and Macau, since 5 August and 3 August, respectively.

As reported, Hainan Hinews Media Co will report extensively on the forthcoming Virtual Travel Retail Expo to its vast consumer audience in Hainan and on the Mainland.

Hainan Hinews is also exhibiting as a Platinum Partner in the Hainan Discovery zone, one of the exciting enhancements to the Expo, which returns after a highly successful debut in 2020. Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development (Hainan IEDB) is an official co-organiser of the Expo and host of the pioneering Hainan Discovery zone.
